St. Paddy's Day Libations

March 17th is a national holiday in Ireland to celebrate the life of St. Patrick. The spirit of the festival has spread worldwide, and is even recognized as a holiday in Newfoundland and Labrador (in Canada). The Irish are known for their love of good fun, great beer, and celebrating traditions that involve both. On March 17th be “Irish for a Day” and try some of these great St. Paddy's Day libations.

Green Beer

The time-old tradition:

16 oz Beer (Stout or other)
3 - 6 drops Green Food Colouring

Pour beer into glass or pitcher. Add desired dilution of food colouring and stir gently.

Shamrock Shake

1 oz Crème de Menthe
1/2 oz Vodka
1 scoop Vanilla Ice Cream

Place in blender and mix at low speed until smooth. Serve in a chilled glass with a sprig of mint to garnish.


 

Irish Car Bomb

3/4 pint Guinness
1/2 shot Irish Cream Liqueur
1/2 shot Irish Whiskey

Pour Guinness into a pint glass (3/4 full) and allow to settle. Pour the Irish Cream Liquor into a shot glass and then layer the Irish Whiskey on top. Drop into the Guinness and drink immediately. Not for the faint of heart!

Wicket Little Leprechaun

2 shots Vodka
1 shot Blue Maui
7-Up
Orange Juice

In a highball glass, mix vodka, Blue Maui and a splash of 7-Up over ice. Top off with orange juice..

Nutty Irishman

1/2 shot Irish Cream Liqueur
1/2 shot Frangelico

Pour the Irish Cream Liqueur into a shot glass and then layer the Frangelico on top. Sprinkle with nutmeg to garnish.

Serve up on a Shamrock tray or in a "Nutty" St. Paddy's costume!
